The Uniform
The traditional uniform was a simple, loose-hanging, garment that was similar to everyday
clothing in Korea. It permitted complete freedom of movement. When ToDe Jitsu migrated to
Japan form Okinawa the Japanese government suggested that the masters develop some sort of
structure similar to the system used by Doctor Jigoro Kano*s Judo. Gishin Funakoshi*s took
this advice and developed the white traditional uniform and the beginning of the belt system.
Everyone wore white because it promoted uniformity. It also eliminated class distinction in the
studio because the nobility and the regular citizens dressed alike. Since the Wooster branch of
Grandmaster Chun Tae Kwon Do started as a womens only martial arts program it was decided
that we go with a more stylish look, hence the black pants.
The uniform is to be worn with the left flap over the right. The side ties are optional, and need
not be used. Women will often wear a shirt the same color as their belt color, but this is
tradition not a rule. This most important thing is to be cool and have complete freedom of
movement.
Every student must have a schools Dalma patch, the USA patch, and the Korea patch, on their
uniform before their first test. The USA and Korea flag patches are included with your
uniform. The USA goes on the right arm about 2in. from the shoulder seam. The American flag
MUST be placed upon the right arm. It is disrespectful to wear it any place else. The Korea
goes on the left side the same way. The Dalma patch goes on the left side of the chest. After
your first one they are $5 dollars each.
Students on the demo team will receive a demo team patch to put on their uniform. This patch
goes on the right sleeve below the USA patch.  Students on the STORM team will receive a
STORM team patch.  This patch will go on the left sleeve below the Korea patch.
The Black Belt Club has the Grandmaster Chun Tae Kwon Do logo silk screened on the back. You
will also receive a Black Belt Club patch to wear on the right chest opposite of the Dalma.
The Master Club Uniform has the school logo sewn on the back of the uniform as well as the
traditional patch on the left chest. These are the most prestigious uniforms and they symbolize
a students commitment to advanced Black Belt Training up to and beyond second degree black
belt. The Masters Club Patch may be worn on the right chest opposite of the Dalma (in the
place of the Black Belt Club Patch).
Blue Pants: Traditionally, Tae Kwon Do Ji Do Kwan instructors wore navy blue pants. (We
cannot find navy blue pants. Master Stepan dyes his own.) We use Royal blue in this same spirit
to exhibit the dignity of a Ji Do Kwan instructor. Our Special Team Of Role Models who are
the future instructors of our studio are permitted to wear blue pants also in this same
tradition. Our Faculty members are allowed to wear all blue uniforms.
