Rules
Moo Gum Jung Do  (Padded Weapons Sparring)

Free Sparring

Equipment:
A.     Contestants must wear headgear, handgear, footgear, groin protection      
       and mouthguards. Hogo is optional.
B.     Footgear must extend and cover the toe area.
C.     Handgear must cover the knuckle area.

Matches:
A.     Eliminations: Contestants scoring the most points within two minutes
wins.
B.     When the time runs out the contestant with the highest score wins.
C.     When the time runs out and there is a tie score, the contestant who has    
       warnings or minus points loses the match.
D.     When "A" has two minus points, but has gained no points to subtract        
        from, "A" loses the match.
E.     If there is a tie score and neither contestant has any warnings or minus     
      points, the judges will select the winner on superior point.
F.     When blood is drawn to "illegal target areas", the contestant causing the   
       draw of blood should be disqualified.
H.     When contestant is disqualified, the opponent wins the match.
I.       When a contestant is unable to continue, due to fault of their own, the     
         opponent will win the match.

Point:
A.     Points shall be awarded to any proper technique executed effectively to     
      any proper target areas.
B.     One point will be awarded for any hand or foot technique to the body.
C.     One point will be awarded for any hand technique to "legal target areas"    
      to the head.
D.     Two points will be awarded for any foot technique to "legal target areas"   
       to the head.

Legal Target Areas:
A.     Facial area: light contact or well controlled "no contact" techniques to        
       AREAS COVERED BY FOAM PROTECTION ONLY, except the back of       
   the head and top of the head.
B.     Chest & Stomach areas: no excessive contact allowed.
C.     Side of Torso: no excessive contact allowed.

Illegal Target Areas:
Frontal Facial Area, Neck, Back of Head, Throat, Groin, Thigh, Knee,              
Shin, and Back.

Proper Techniques:
Hand Techniques: Fist punches (forward and reverse), chop, backfist.
Kicking Techniques: All major kicking techniques, except knee kicks.

Illegal Techniques:
Floor sweeps, blind techniques and all other techniques not listed as               
Proper Techniques.

Minus Point:
A minus point is an elimination of a point. Minus points will be awarded as
follows: First offense - warning. Second offense - minus point. Third                 
offense - minus point. Fourth offense - Disqualification. A minus point will      
   be awarded under the following circumstances.

A.  Any malicious use of an illegal technique.
B.  Continued use, after warning, of an illegal technique.
C. Any malicious attack to an illegal target area.
D. Continued attacks, after warning, to an illegal target area.
E. Faking an injury.
F. Intentionally avoiding fighting.
G. Continuous, after warning, running out of the ring.


Breaking

Contestants are responsible for their own board holders (actual holders, not
people). No CMU's (concrete masonry units) will be allowed to be stacked on
top of each other.

If you are breaking concrete a piece of carpet must be under the break so that
no concrete will hit the floor. Carpet will be provided at Black Belt rings.

Time Allowance:
A.     Each contestant will have two minutes to set up for their breaking               
       techniques.
B.     Points will be deducted if a contestant exceeds the two minute time            
       allotment.
C.     Contestants should try to have holders prior to the commencement of       
        the competition.

Number of Techniques:
A.     Each contestant will be allowed to perform a maximum of four different   
           breaking techniques.

Successful Completion:
A.     Each contestant will have two opportunities to successfully complete a      
       breaking technique.
B.    The second attempt at a break will cause a contestant to lose points.

Breaking Materials:
A.     To promote fair competition, all boards used in Breaking Competitions     
         MUST be purchased at the tournament.
B.     The sizes and prices for the boards are as follows:
3" X 12" ($1.00): To be used for HAND & FOOT for ages 5 & 6.
6" X 12" ($1.50): To be used for HAND & FOOT for ages 7 - 12.
8" X 12" ($1.75): To be used for HAND & FOOT for ages 13 - 15.
8" X 12" ($1.75): To be used for HAND for ages 16 and older.
10" X 12" ($1.75): To be used for FOOT for ages 16 and older.
C.     Board spacers are permitted no wider than a pencil.

Judging:
Each contestant will be judged on the following:
A.     The "cleanness" of the break.
B.     The level of difficulty of the technique.
C.     The contestant's preparedness to perform, i.e. set-up/positioning                
      holders.

Forms

Divisions:
A.     A contestant may only compete in one division.

Judging:
A.     Points will be deducted when a contestant stops and resumes the form.
B.     In all instances above Beginner level where competitors have a tied            
     score, the tied competitors will be required to perform a
different form          
     again. UNDERBELT winners will be determined by a vote of at least 2 of      
   3 judges and BLACK BELT winners will be chosen by a vote of at least 3         
of 5 judges.
Counter
